On 12 February 2023, Woof N’ Wags participated in shutting down an illegal unlicensed makeshift facility in South Lebanon’s Ghazieh region — a facility set up illegally on public ground near Zahrani River — by a deranged cruel woman, a squatter who had taken control of the land and who collected, beat, starved, humiliated, and sold dogs and puppies. A woman who had already been legally apprehended and prohibited from having dogs. So her harsher legal prosecution is just beginning. We had first heard about these dogs from our friend local rescuer Mohamad Habli who sent us videos to show us what was going on in this facility.
Participating in this shutdown operation — one of the largest in South Lebanon — were local NGO PAW (Perpetual Animal Watch), Attorney Mounir Zoghbi, animal rights advocate Ghina Nahfawi Baltaji, Ziad Alameh, and other individuals credited in Ghina’s full account of how this shutdown was planned and implemented (in that post you’ll also find disturbing videos showing the abuse, recorded by Mohammad Habli: https://bit.ly/3ltH5kA). Of course, Woof N’ Wags was on-site to bring the dogs to safety. Woof N’ Wags decided to welcome these tortured dogs, and an appointment was set for cracking down on this illegal facility and seizing the dogs to bring them immediately into our care at Woof N’ Wags.
Upon arrival, we were met with a horror scene much worse than the videos we had seen. We arrived to find some of the dogs already dead and had to bury them on-site. Dogs were left without water, tied inside wooden boxes with no protection from rain or sun. So many were starved, sick, their skin consumed by mange, terrified, and shaking. Woof N’ Wags supported this operation by taking into our shelter, despite all our struggles and lack of funds, the 45 abused dogs and putting them in our care. We are now fundraising to get all these dogs spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and we will be counting on animal lovers’ care and commitment to get that done!
